The first Guanmiao Mian (Guanmiao Noodles) were made around the 1950s. Few people called it Guanmiao Mian at that time. Instead, the noodles were known as Sheng Gan Mian (raw-dried noodles), Da Mian (big noodle sticks), and Liou Zai Mian (willow leaf noodles). The founder of the store, Mr. Li Chin-sheng, laid the foundation of this noodle-making facility in 1952. The noodles were entirely hand-made and dried in natu-ral sunlight in compliance to the traditional methods. After over 60 years and three generations of hard work, some technical changes were made in response to technological advancements but the method has re-mained true to the traditional recipe.
Li Ming-sien, the 3rd generation owner, has inherited the essence of the traditional approach:
1. No artificial coloring or preservatives. 2. 100% hand-made and dried in natural sun. No artificial drying process is to be employed. 3. No bleaching of the noodles. Such are our three main guarantees. We have developed over a dozen kinds of healthy and wholesome noodles cater-ing to satisfy modern health-consciousness. These varieties include mixed-cereal noodles, whole-wheat noodles, vegetable noodles, tomato noodles, purple Chinese yam noodles, red yeast noodles, wholesome noodles, Mocha noodles, charcoal noodles, and Chinese Toon noodles. New concepts, new knowledge, and new technology are employed to sustain the quality of our Guanmiao noodles while developing novel va-rieties to generate more business opportunities.
